For as long as I can remember I have had what I thought to be acne on my buttocks (I'm gonna' call it bum for short). I have been to skin doctors in the past for problems with my facial complexion but I was too embarassed to mention my bum so I kept it to myself (and hid by bum from boyfriends as best I could).
Just last night I finally Googled "bumps on buttocks" and found out about KP. It all made sense in an instant. I have always had these bumps on my upper arms and thighs. Sometimes it was worse than other times. Usually in the winter the condition got worse. I never knew what these rough patches were. Nothing really helped.
Since I couldn't see my bum very well I just assumed from feeling the skin that it was acne. It's KP! Bummer (pun intended) but at the same time at least I know what it is and it is not that I need to wash more or whatever else I was possibly doing wrong.
I wanted to say hi and express my support for those of you who have KP worse than me. My butt is hidden most of the time. Reading about all the picking is so sad. If I could reach and see enough to pick I'd be picking away, too, for sure.
I just bought KP Duty and I will write back to report. So far it is an amazing moisturizer but I don't know if it will help with the KP. I really believe it is mainly about getting the dead skin off first and foremost. I'm also trying Ecucerin w/alpha-hydroxy acid and a scrub. I'm also going to try the oatmeal scrubs people have mentioned. I bet that will help to calm the skin. I can't imagine this will go away but I'll try anything and remain hopeful. A bumpy bum is no fun. Good luck to all. ign_eeeew
I get it too, but this one is a hard one for me. It comes and goes. It's either not there at all, or its there REALLY bad. And I can't seem to find the trigger, or the treatment to calm it down. Let us know what you find out!
As embarrassing as it is, I get a little KP on my butt as well. I've been using "Kiss My Face" Bar Soap with Olive Oil & Aloe, and St. Ives "Medicated" Apricot Scrub in the shower on my KP areas. After my shower I use the KP Duty... this routine has really helped reduce the bumps.

Keratosis Pilaris (KP) is a very common and completely harmless skin condition. In the population as a whole, keratosis pilaris may affect as many as one person in three. Its name gives some idea of what it is. 'Keratosis' means that there is too much keratin which makes up the tough horny outer layer of the skin: 'pilaris' comes from the Latin word for hair (pilus). In keratosis pilaris, many small (1 to 2 mm. across) horny plugs can be seen blocking the hair follicles on the upper and outer parts of the arms and thighs.
For anyone with somekind off gym facility near them try working out your legs (leg presses, leg extensions, etc.) I worked on my legs for about 30 mins a day for a week, but after the first day the "acne" part was gone and after about a week even the little red spots seemed to be disapearing. If you are really dedicated try this out, it takes some hard work but it gets rid of it really well. And remember, no pain, no gain, work them hard. Good Luck.
Is it normal to have KP only on your butt? I am currently trying to diagnose what I have always thought were pimples on my butt (but am now not convinced, since ance topical treatments have not worked and it is not really like other acne). Next I wondered if it was folliculitis and now found out about KP and see how it resembles that.
Any suggestions how I can diagnose this properly so I treat it properly?
