i'm sure i have keratosis pilaris. i'm 14, and i have the bumps that everyone knows of all over my arms. the only thing nobody else is talking about is
skin turning different colors.
sometimes my arms are fine and a normal color, sometimes they look sunburnt when they're not (and when they do get sunburnt, it doesn't fade into a
tan, it fades and kind of stays), sometimes they turn purple-ish, and sometimes they have bright and dark red blotches on them. it does flare up when i
excercise, but even when i'm not (like waking up after sleeping) they're still bright red. the doctor gave me some cream for the redness but it really
didn't help.
somebody PLEASE help me! it gets so bad i don't even want to wear t shirts sometimes. i was also wondering if me shaving my arms when i was little (stupid
move, i know!) would have anything to do with this.
i have kp too and i used to get that variation in colour. the purple-ish colour and also the darker botchiness used to come when i was cold, and the rest of
the time it was usually just red.
the great thing for me is that i found out what was causing mine - dairy. i would DEFINITELY recommend you try cutting out dairy to see if it makes a
difference. it took about a week and a half / 2 weeks for me to notice the improvement. the difference in mine is unbelievable, i still havnt gotten over the
novelty of how comfortable i feel wearing t-shirts or sleevless tops now! i have MUCH less bumps, the few bumps i do have are flatter, smaller, and the same
colour as my normal skin. to quantify it, on a scale of 1 - 100, i would say the way my kp was with dairy in my diet was a 90, and now, its a 10.
I know this won't help get rid of your problem, but this made me feel so much better about myself - I bought leg make up, but you can use it on your arms
too I guess. It covered up most of my KP on my legs, I could actually wear shorts! I used it when I was on holiday, so it wore off when I went it to the
pool/sea. But I spent a few days around the place I stayed and seriously it lasted pretty much all day. It can be expensive so watch out how much you use. You
can buy it from pretty much anywhere. I live in England so there are probably different brands if you live else where:
That is the one i used. I'm still searching for a treatment for my KP. The sun or sea did nothing for me whilst I was abroad. I have it all over my legs
but no where else. I've only just found out that I have KP, but I knew I had something weird all along. I've had it since I was like 10 I think and
I'm now 17.
