What to Look For in a Doctor: Use the 5-C Method
Choosing your doctor will be of the utmost importance as you start to get more serious about seeking medical help to restore that youthful, glowing look you seek. When it comes to choosing your facial rejuvenation specialist, we suggest what we call the 5-C Method:
- Compassionate: Why is compassion at the top of our list of 5-C's? Simply put, you want a doctor who is going to truly care about your results, not just some paint-by-numbers physician going through the motions. Every face is different and no face is more important than your own. Don't you want to have someone who cares about your face as much as you do working on it? Locating a doctor and choosing a doctor are two very different things. After all, you wouldn't buy the first house you visit, would you? No, you'd want to take the full tour, explore every room, test the faucets, open the cabinets - kick the tires, so to speak - and then come back after you've explored every other available option. The same is true of your facial rejuvenation specialist; meet with him personally before committing to any procedure and really trust your gut to guide you as to whether or not he or she is truly the right doctor for you.
- Confident: You want a doctor who is confident about what he does. When he answers your questions, really listen to how he responds. Is he just throwing around five-dollar words to avoid revealing that he really doesn't know the answer, or do his responses make sense and, more importantly, make you feel better about what he's just said? Your doctor should know the answers to all of your questions and be able to give you responses that are clear, concise and confident. If he is hesitant or uncertain, you will find yourself less confident about choosing him.
- Comprehensive: When you select your physician, make sure that he or she has the knowledge base for all of your facial rejuvenation needs; in the most comprehensive of manners. What this means is that if your physician is a dermatologist, he should know when the needle or the laser wouldn't solve your solution and a surgical specialist needs to be consulted. On the other hand, many surgeons know how to use the scalpel but have no idea about the importance of skin rejuvenation. Comprehensive facial rejuvenation requires your specialists to know all facets of FACIAL REJUVENATION so you get the best possible outcome.
- Compatible: You want to be very compatible with the person working on your face, so make sure that you and your doctor "click." We call this "The Click Factor." We don't know any other way to put it. It's a subjective opinion, to be sure, but the Click Factor should be there if you and your doctor are really going to connect on both a personal and professional level. This doesn't mean you two have to be friends and go out for lunch, it merely means that you "get" each other and he or she is really listening to what you're saying. The good thing is, the Click Factor is pretty immediate. Most people know after a few minutes of speaking with us whether or not we're going to click. And, truthfully, we don't always do so, but what's important to remember about being compatible with your physician is that you must both be yourself.
- Certified: We really can't stress this enough; use the information provided in the previous section and find a board certified physician who has an expertise in the area of your concern. We know it takes a little more time, a little more research and a little more effort, but trust us: it is well worth the exertion. Remember the 95% Factor; you don't want to be in the 5% who experiences trouble as a result of skipping this step and having a very serious procedure done at a location without a board certified doctor working on you. Nuff said.
