I'm a 27 year old female and have been diagnosed with rosacea a few years
ago. However, after reading about Keratosis pilaris rubra faceii, I have a sneaking suspicion that I was misdiagnosed and have this other condition instead.
How would I be able to tell if it is KP vs. rosacea?
Here's enough background to help with the diagnosis - thanks in advance to
respondents:
My facial symptoms started with a permanently rosy patch on the lower right cheek of my face, close to the jaw line,
which felt dryer than the rest of my skin. Over the next 2 years the patch expanded to cover both cheeks fully, although the dryness disappeared. I now have
normal to combination skin which appears rosy pink on the apples of the cheeks, and have small pink spots dotting most of the lower cheeks. My face isn't
bumpy, although I do have larger than average pores.
On a normal day, these conditions aren't extreme, and can be easily covered up with a moderate amount of
foundation, but they're noticeable enough to make me dependent on makeup. However, I'm prone to extreme facial flushing during exercise, and my face
turns temporarily redder in cold air and windy conditions.
My face has never been reactive to products or treatments, and has never felt sensitive (no itching, burning or
extreme changes in moisture level), which are usually associated with rosacea. Any topical or antibiotic treatments that I was given for rosacea didn't
make any difference.
Another reason for suspecting KP is that I certainly have it on the back of my arms, although it looks slightly
different than the condition affecting my face.
