The best recomendation for KP is an AHA lotion called Lac-Hydrin. It used to be available only by prescription, but now you can get it at almost any pharmacy. I pay only $11 for a bottle which generally lasts me at least a couple months. I have used this lotion off and on throughout the years.. Every time I use it the bumps on my legs completely clear up within a matter of days. However, when I have quit using it the bumps came back about a week later.
Lac-Hydrin is really the only thing that I would suggest. I've tried other things like exfoliating scrubs, loofahs, and all kinds of crazy home remedies and none of those helped in the least bit. And plus it is a pain in the ass to always be scrubbin your skin in the shower with exfoliaters when you could just use a lotion that does that for you.
Lac-hydrin is very similar to Amlactin. And, I agree, that it sometimes seems too harsh for the skin, especially the face. BUT, alternate with something else like Vaseline creamy white formula in a tube (which can't hurt anything and it's quite soothing and quite cheap and not as greasy as straight petroleum jelly). And if the Lac hydrin/Amlactin still bothers you try the Alphahydrox brand lotions/creams. The % of AHA is a little lower. I've been drinking extra water and drinking less alcohol (which I also think is a contributor to the flareups) and my KP is much better. I have KP on my arms & upper thighs but that is easily controlled for me by Olay's Moisturinse in shower body lotion. The facial rash is the one that bugs me more and the above program has helped. There is no one magic thing that solves the problem, but this regimen has helped me without breaking the bank!
I ordered KP duty yesterday and I very eager to use it. But before I wanted to find something cheaper and I am now trying an alternative treatment to see if it works I don't have to depend on KP Duty: I use Neutrogena face wash to wash my arms ( the one designed for acne that contains Salicylic acid) with a loofah ( very gently) after my shower I use a combination of Lac-Hydrin 12% and Eucerin Plus Intensive repair lotion. It may seem like a lot but is being working really well and in a very short time ( less than a week). The bumps are almost gone and the red spots are fading fast too. I do this once a day and takes minutes so is not a burden for me and the results I see are very good. During the day I moisture my arms with Aveno baby lotion, nothing fancy just moisturizing lotion. I am going to continue to do it to see if I get rid of my KP completely if not I will the start the KP duty regimen.
